This year for Tsudoi, our annual student conference meaning "gathering" in Japanese, was on the theme of Networking in Africa. We had some fantastic guest speakers, a productive webinar on impact and purpose, and inter-cohort discussions about networking and problem-solving on the continent.
African Diaspora Investment Symposium 2023
Endalk reflected on one of the guest speaker's comments, that when people think about problems in Africa, they often think that money is the main issue in solving a problem; instead, he explained, problems can be solved through connection and the management of money and resources already in hand. Salifu was inspired by the investment event's emphasis on the role of African youth, an underutilized population who can make impact on the continent. Ditrick was surprised by the number of Africans living in the diaspora, who may be potential investors in African entrepreneurial projects.
Exploration USA Weekend
“Reuniting with my Ashinaga US family is always a nostalgic and happy experience. During this wonderfully planned exploration weekend, thanks to the US Ashinaga coordinators, I had an opportunity to meet the new scholars for the first time despite covid delaying this encounter. No doubt, I will come back next year to experience this great social environment if another opportunity comes by.”
Eleazer Reflects on his Undergraduate Experience
“My four years in the Ashinaga Africa Initiative program have been undoubtedly an unmatched experience. When I first arrived in Uganda for prep camp, I didn’t really know what to expect, but the entire experience blew my mind. I met a lot of amazing people who have contributed to my access as a person and a future African leader.“
